One of my favorite things to do in Switzerland is to go shopping for groceries. In the United States, I would go to the supermarket for groceries where I would be able to purchase meat, cheese, milk, bread, baked goods, anything I would need. It is very convenient, literally, a one stop shop. In contrast in Switzerland, shopping is an event. I went to the boulangerie for my bread, the patisserie for my pastries, and I definitely went to the formagerie for my cheese.
Château-d'Œx

As I've mentioned in the previous blog, posts, cheese is to Switzerland… My husband and I went to Switzerland to attend my cousin's wedding. My grandmother was originally from Luanne and her son, my uncle, moved back to Switzerland when he was a young man and raised a family there, so my cousins grew up in Switzerland. We stayed at a small Alpine Village called Château d'Œx in the cant why are weon of Vaud. We took a walk in the rain and explored this village, enjoying all of the chalet style houses. All with beautiful red flowers and window boxes such an idyllic setting for a rainy walk. When we became hungry, we saw a restaurant called La chalet. We got very excited to try some more delicious Swiss food.
When we first entered the restaurant, we noticed it appeared to be more of a boutique and cheese store than a restaurant. The smell was enticing. It was unlike anything I've ever smelled before. I like it too when you go into a brewery, had kind of a fresh, earthy smell that you don't normally get in a restaurant or boutique. After wandering around a little perplexed and still hungry, we noticed a stairway with a sign that said Restaurant. Finally.... The restaurant was absolutely adorable. You really did feel like you were in a Swiss chalet. Which we were the one surprising factor was the old, very large cauldron with a fire burning beneath it in the middle of the room. What in the Hansel and Gretel have we gotten ourselves into!!!
